GAVIN GRIFFIN WINS RECORD EPT GRAND FINAL
Gavin Griffin of the United States won the 2007 PokerStars.com European Poker Tour Grand Final, beating out 705 of the world’s top players to scoop the first prize of €1.825m ($2.5m).
Griffin, who became the youngest player to win a World Series bracelet in 2004 at the age of 22, qualified for the EPT Grand Final via a $240 Double Shoot out satellite on PokerStars.
The EPT Grand Final took place at the Monte Carlo Bay Hotel in Monaco. The six-day, €10,000 buy-in event generated a prize pool of more than €6.6 million (over $8.8 million) – by far the biggest for a tournament in Europe, and a record outside of Las Vegas.
A total of 24 PokerStars online qualifiers, including 3rd place finisher Soren Kongsgaard of Denmark (€610,550), made the money in Monte Carlo, taking home €3.77m ($5m) - more than half of the total prize pool.
