BEIJING – The Puerto Rican McJoe Arroyo regretted having disappointed on Tuesday his country but admitted the superiority of his rival Russian Sergey Vodopyanov in the first round of the Olympic boxing rooster pesos.
“I know that Puerto Rico had me for a medal but I could not. I felt good and I was always looking for but he has good speed, long range and is very skillful” Arroyo said after losing 10-5 in front of Vodopyanov, the world champion division.
Arroyo added that left the ring with the “head high” because he felt that a good fight but admitted to feeling both “very sad”.
Jose Laureano, coach of Arroyo, complained that “scores of judges not favored us and forced us to change strategy” but added that not called “because the Russian is a good boxer, a good boy and did an excellent fight here. ”
At the moment Arroyo only think in the near future in Beijing which will be devoted to supporting the three boxers from Puerto Rico to compete in the second round, including his twin McWilliams.
