Tennis / Mauresmo gets another tennis final – beats Russian Elena Dementieva
France’s Amelie Mauresmo won today by Russian Elena Dementieva 7-6 (7), 2-6 and 6-4 in the final of the WTA tournament in Paris to achieve his 25th career title and first for nearly two years.
In June 2007, Mauresmo won the last title of his career in Antwerp, to beat the Belgian Kim Clisters in the final. Four months after contested until the last final this Sunday in Eatsbourne, also the Belgian Justine Henin, but eventually defeated.
It seemed the end of the player from St. Germains en Laye, winning two Grand Slams in the Australia Open and Wimbledon in 2006. But two years after their last final, where the classification of the former world number one for 39 weeks has dropped to 24, with two compatriots, and Alize Cornet Marion Bartoli, surpassed, Mauresmo has tasted victory again.
Mauresmo won in two hours and 38 minutes, for their first title this season, and the third in this tournament after those in 2001 and 2006 in six final disputed here.
This title, first since it achieved hired late last year to his new coach Hugo Lecoq, it means go back to the group of the top 20 (19).
