INDIAN WELLS .- Relaxed body and mind after a break that has allowed him to recover from back problems, Roger Federer is eager to enjoy a new chapter in its rivalry with Rafael Nadal at Indian Wells Masters.
Federer, who has not played any official meeting since his defeat last month in the final of the Australia Open, said that is more motivated than ever, despite having lost their last five matches before the shooting.
The Swiss, three times champion at Indian Wells, hopes to meet Nadal in the final of the tournament. “I love these games, especially those who go to five sets, see if I can fight him physically without a problem. It is the biggest challenge I’ve ever had,” he said.
“I am really motivated because I do not know how much you can improve [Nadal]. I also do not know how I can play better, but it is true that playing tennis of his life,” he said.
Federer admitted that Nadal is the player “bigger” of the moment. “It has been tested on all surfaces, and guessed that it would be so easy when I won Roland Garros in 2008. It has to forget how it feels to lose,” he said.
Dahill, only one counselor
The Swiss player also clarified that his relationship with the Australian Darren Cahill will not be among a technician and a player. “It’s all good. We spent a lot of talk and good times, but we decided not to continue,” said Federer. “He told me that it would be difficult for him to travel to tournaments.” Federer said it continues to work part time with the captain of the Davis Cup for his country, Severin Luthi. “I am very happy with Severin,” she added. “We have been working the past year and a half together and nothing really changes. I continue with the team that I have always had.”
