BRUSSELS, Belgium, May 9, 2009 .- The Belgian cyclist Tom Boonen has returned to positive for cocaine after a doping control carried out between 24 and 25 April, ten days after his triumph in the classic Paris-Roubaix as published on Saturday the Belgian daily “Sud Presse” and “Het Laatste Nieuws.
The home of the athlete was registered yesterday by officials of the Belgian court of Turnhout, according to judicial sources quoted by the newspaper.
The case is almost a year after that Boonen gave positive for the same drug and could have serious consequences for the corridor in the judicial field and in the sport.
Last February, a Belgian court decided to suspend the sentence for cocaine possession and consumption of Boonen under certain conditions, including the rider to not return to drugs and maintain contacts with a judicial officer.
The Belgian Quick Step team, was not sanctioned by the International Cycling Union (UCI), although the organizers of the Tour de France and the Tour of Switzerland decided not to admit in these competitions last year.
