Dinara Safina needed three sets to eliminate Roberta Vinci. Maria Jose Martinez advances to second round

The Russian tennis player Dinara Safina, needed three sets to eliminate Italy’s Roberta Vinci, in part for the second round of Cincinnati Open (United States).

After falling 2-6 in the first set, Safina managed to win 7-5 in the second and 6-4 in the third.

In other second round matches, American Venus Williams had no problems to defeat the Belarusian Olga Govortsova, 6-2 for a double, while Russian Svetlana Kuznetsova, sixth favorite, suffered more than expected to quit in way to Czech Lucie Safarova, by 6-3, 6-7 and 7-6.

Good debut was Spanish Maria Jose Martinez in the first round match, exceeded by 6-4, 3-6 and 6-3 to Russian Vera Dushevina. One of the surprises the couple starred in the Belgian Yanina Wickmayer, who eliminated Italy’s Francesca Schiavone by 6-3 and 6-4.
