LE MANS, France, May 17, 2009 .- The Spanish driver Jorge Lorenzo (Yamaha) won today in the Grand Prix of France, played in the circuit of Le Mans.
After Lorenzo was rated the Italian Marco Melandri (Kawasaki) and Spanish Dani Pedrosa (Honda).
The Italian Valentino Rossi (Yamaha) had an unfortunate race, which ended in the sixteenth, after spending four times by the line of garages, including one as a result of a penalty imposed for exceeding the speed limit in that area.
Rossi arrived at Le Mans in front of the World, a position he snatched Lorenzo in Jerez, where the Spanish fell.
The race was marked by the change of motorcycles because most drivers had tires chosen for water, once declared a wet race on which to enter and exit the garage with another machine and various rubbers.
Lorenzo was masterful because he left at a faster rate than its rivals, so that’s where he got his second Yamaha margin was enough to return to the track again at the forefront of the race.
For its part, passed Pedrosa on a masterly his teammate, the Italian Andrea Dovizioso on the final curve of the circuit after having cut the gap back to back with the Italian.

Reyes – from the big leagues to jail

LAS VEGAS (AP) – Not long ago, Gilberto Reyes was one of the major league catcher who worked with Orel Hershiser, Randy Johnson and Dennis Martínez.
Prisoner and is now facing an uncertain future.

Four days before Christmas 2007, Reyes was driving a truck that went off the road to ice skate on the pavement in northeastern New Mexico. The vehicle overturned and scattered a quantity of furniture and a hidden cargo: 190 kilos (420 pounds) of marijuana hidden in 42 packages wrapped in cellophane. The drug is scattered by the snow.

The authors estimate that had been sold for $ 250,000 on the street.

Dominican Reyes, who played seven years in the largest, with the Los Angeles Dodgers and Montreal Expos, has been in prison since then, but insists he is innocent.

“I had never been in prison. I never had trouble with the police,” he said last month in a one-hour interview with the AP in the County Detention Center in San Miguel.

Reyes laughed often during the interview in a study room of the prison, which was wearing the orange prison uniform and white sneakers.

Had served 45 years behind bars. He said he rejected an agreement that had been found guilty in exchange for a reduced sentence because he wanted to defend his good name.

“To be honest, they had a good case,” said Reyes. “The prosecutor was very good. He did his job. I could not leave me free. I had to prove that I knew what was in the truck.”

Reyes’s trial in February ended without a verdict because the jurors did not agree. Eight is considered innocent and four thought that he was guilty. This implies that the Dominican Republic to remain a prisoner awaiting a new trial, scheduled in July.

The prosecutor Richard Florida was criticized by some residents who believe in the innocence of Reyes. But he stood firm.

“Drugs are a problem in our community,” said Flores. “There are many families who have been affected by them. Anyone who uses them is not the only one affected.”

The prosecutor, however, dropped the charges this month because of visa expired while Reyes was in prison. Decided that the immigration service would work for him and put out of circulation to the Dominican Republic, deported for being in the country without their papers in order.

When a judge granted him parole on March 10, was immediately arrested by agents of the immigration service that led to the processing center in El Paso, Texas, where it remains arrested without right to bail, waiting to be deported the Dominican Republic.

“I trust that will serve the public interest when deported and can not carry or deliver drugs to our citizens,” said Flores.

Reyes said that this was “a nightmare” who never imagined could happen when he accepted the $ 1000 offered by an individual who identified himself as “Garcia” to bring the furniture from the border with Mexico to Denver.

Garcia says that she met playing pool in Douglas, Arizona. Going out together to drink beer during five months.

Reyes had been leading a team of minor leagues in Mexico Agua Prieta. At the end of the season, he worked at youth camps, until they ran out of money.

The offer did Garcia seemed an easy job, that would give enough money to return to his family.

“My only mistake was to rely on that type,” he said. “I knew him for several months. I had never seen a dealer and never thought he was one.”

An agent of the anti-drug agency (DEA, for its initials in English), stated at trial that the use of “mules” and drug packages wrapped in cellophane are typical of sophisticated trafficking organizations.

Reyes was unable to pay a $ 10,000 bond after being arrested, so he remained in prison.

The Dominican Republic says it has a clear conscience because they always did well. Indicated that they could escape after the accident, without staying to wait for the police.

“I sat and waited for the police. I could have taken one of the packages, an auto stop and say ‘Take me to Albuquerque,” he said.

Ensures that she did not know he had no drugs in the truck. He adds that half felt dizzy from the accident and at first did not realize that the packages contained marijuana irrigated. It was cold and snow in this remote area of Interstate 25.

“It could go anywhere on foot,” he said.

The Dominican Republic said that could escape again when he was taken to a hospital in Las Vegas, where nobody monitored for 20 minutes. It did not, he insists, because he was innocent.

“I’m glad I had the accident because the drug did not reach the vendor,” he added.

Reyes batted 202 in seven seasons in the major. He played with the Dodgers from 1983-88, as for Mike Scioscia. Throughout his career was in catcher Hershiser and helped train the young Pedro Martínez.

His last two seasons in the major, the 1989 and 1991, happened with the Expos, where he played with Johnson and Dennis Martínez. Described Nicaragua as a “very good friend.”

One of his frustrations in the worst prison is that you can not learn too much from what happens in baseball.

But he had some surprises. He led Bible studies, he worked in the kitchen for a year and also in the laundry.

“The prison was hard, trying not to lose hope. But it was a good experience,” said Reyes. “I helped people with Bible studies. Peel a potato I did not know and now I can cook for 150 people. He was the chef.”

Worst of all was the suffering of his family.

When neighbors learned of his problems, his wife came from the Dominican Republic to New Jersey. Her two children are living with relatives and going to school in Pennsylvania.

A son, Gilberto Reyes Jr., played baseball with Bellevue University near Omaha, Nebraska. Reyes fears that the boy is affected by the problems of his father.

“I am a simple kind, good-hearted,” he said, while dried a tear. “I’ve been praying and asking for mercy from the Lord. I know that all this will end.”
